Dave Bautista

The new iteration of ‘Fantasy Island’ has recently cast Michael Pena in the leading role and now Dave Bautista (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’) is in talks to join the production as well. We’ve known that Sony and Blumhouse would be producing and have suspected it would fall into the realm of horror due to Blumhouse’s involvement and now have proof of that. This reimaging of the late 70s to early 80s television series is officially being described as ‘Westworld‘ meets ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ so you can expect some fantastic mind-bending horror when it ends up being released. Jeff Wadlow (‘Truth or Dare’) is slated to direct the movie based on a script he is working on with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs.

While I think it would be great to see Bautista take on the part of Tattoo just to mix things up, so far it doesn’t appear that the character is even in the film. Instead, Bautista would play “a former guest who is still on the island against his will and who wants to expose Roarke and the island’s magical secrets.” Pena is set to play Mister Roarke who is the secretive host of the island. The plot of the original had the rich coming to an island to live out their fantasies, and this will have a similar twist. In the movie we’ll see “a group of contest winners who arrive at an island hotel to live out their dreams, only to find themselves trapped in nightmare scenarios.”

At this time, the only other cast member we know is firmly attached to the film is Jimmy O. Yang (‘Crazy Rich Asians’) who is slated to be one of the guests.
