We’ve heard from Alex Kurtzman that ‘Star Trek’ was aiming to connect with a younger audience by introducing two different animated series, now it looks as if a deal is going to happen to bring this show to Nickelodeon.
This won’t be the first animated “Star Trek” series to be released, but it will mark the first time which we’ll see a “Star Trek” series launch on a non-CBS property since ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ premiered on CBS All Access. We’ve already heard that Picard, the adult-orientated animated ‘Lower Decks‘, and the eventual Michelle Yeoh-starring Discovery spinoff will also be on the streaming service where the recent “Star Trek Shorts” have also appeared. As the service caters to a more adult audience, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they would be shopping the children’s show elsewhere.
Of this new series, Kurtzman previously stated:
“There’s other animated things that we’re building that are an entirely different perspective and an entirely different tone [from Lower Decks],What’s exciting about it is not only looking at each animated series as what’s the different tone, but what’s the different technology we can apply to these things so that visually they’re entirely different?”
We all know that ‘Star Wars’ went the exact opposite direction. Yes, Luke Skywalker was a young adult when he set out to explore a galaxy far, far away but he wasn’t yet a full adult. We learned about his new world at the same time he did and didn’t jump directly into an established world where everyone already knew what was going on.
