We’ve known for a while that Lee Pace would once again be playing Ronan in ‘Captain Marvel‘ but not much has been known as to how his character would be involved. We’ve seen early shots of a younger Ronan who has yet to become the Kree zealot we’ve seen when we first met him. When we see him in ‘Captain Marvel,’ the character will still be loyal to the Kree Empire, and it will be interesting to see if any seeds are dropped as to how he’ll become an extremist by the time we get to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’
It should be noted that 20 years will pass between these two movies so we may not even see a hint of Ronan being put on the path that will have him at odds with his own people. According to producer Jonathan Schwartz, Ronan will come into play “in an interesting way”:
“Just like it’s an earlier version of Nick Fury, it’s an earlier version of Ronan, who has not become the radical zealot that we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume One. So he has his own station in Kree society, on Hala, and has his own role to play in the Kree military that intersects with Starforce in an interesting way.”
It seems that while we’ll get a decent look at Fury’s younger years here, there will also be a shot of Ronan’s life, but it won’t be quite as intensive.
“I think the seed… just like there’s a Nick Fury origin story buried in this movie, buried a little bit deeper is the Ronan origin story.”
While I hope that we’ll at least get a hint at how Ronan goes from loyal Kree warrior to a zealot, I suspect that is something which won’t have a spotlight being shined on it.
