It would appear that Oscar Isaac likes working in galaxies far, far away and on top of an impressive resume which already listed multiple outings in the “Star Wars” franchise we’ll now see the actor joining the cast of ‘Dune.’ Denis Villeneuve has previously referred to ‘Dune’ as “Star Wars for adults” so it would only be fitting to have an actor from the franchise who can hopefully one up his previous performances.
In the film, Isaacs will play Duke Leto Atreides. Leto is the father of the main character Paul and will be joined on screen by the Lady Jessica who is his concubine and also his wife in all but name. When the novel (and likely the film) opens, we’ll see Leto as the ruler of the noble House Atreides. It is one of the Great Houses of the feudal interstellar empire known as the Padishah Empire. While not the richest or most powerful of the great houses, it is the most respected. The introduction also shows us that the House Atreides is given control over the planet Arrakis which was previously controlled by their arch enemies House Harkonnen. The planet would give Leto and his people power and financial gains to go along with their status while also dealing a blow to their greatest enemies and puts all of the events for the story into motion.
Isaac will be joining an already impressive cast which includes the likes of Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Charlotte Rampling.
This will be the third live-action portrayal of Duke Leto Atreides. The character was previously played by Jürgen Prochnow in the 1984 film by David Lynch and later by William Hurt in the 2000 miniseries on Syfy.
