Christy Carlson Romano's Character In Live-Action 'Kim Possible' Revealed

While 11 years have passed since the original animated ‘Kim Possible’ series featured the crime-fighting cheerleader, her naked mole rat Rufus, and her best friend Ron teamed up to save the world. And while the show may seem like a distant memory to fans, Christy Carlson Romano, who voiced Kim in the series, “can’t remember a time in my life without Kim Possible.”

In a recent interview, Romano spoke about the upcoming live-action ‘Kim Possible’ film, and how the animated series shaped her life. Romano said:

“I’ll always feel very connected to Kim. The fans have never gone away. Now, the new film, it’s an opportunity for the fanship to grow.”

Sadie Stanley will fill Romano’s shoes and take on the role of Kim for the film, but Romano couldn’t pass up the chance to revisit the franchise! She will play Poppy Blu, a famous pop star and friend of Kim’s.

Romano spoke about her character’s storyline, saying:

“I’m here to pick Kim up because Kim doesn’t have a driver’s license. She doesn’t have her driver’s license, but she needs to get rides from the Marines or famous people, if you remember, to get to her missions. Kim is just like every teenager, but she happens to know some really important people, and Poppy Blue happens to be one of those important people.”

Romano also alluded that the upcoming film has several hidden Easter eggs for fans, but the new show will really bring the characters into 2019. Romano revealed that Kim’s Kimmunicator has undergone an overhaul, saying:

“KP now has a communicator on her chest that if you push the button, it’s a hologram.”

While Romano spent a week onset filming ‘Kim Possible,’ she decided not to share her opinions about how Kim should be played. She said:

“Out of respect to the directors and also to the process of a young actress, Sadie, learning about what her interpretation of Kim was, I chose not to be vocal about anything in particular with what I would think or would do or say. It wasn’t my place to overstep and try to be a control freak. I wanted them to experience Kim for how they saw her.”

Romano went on to say that she hopes fans will be seeing more of her new character in the future, saying:

“I thought it was really fun that they asked me to be that cameo, but I kind of look at it as a character. When I approached Poppy Blu, I wasn’t just playing it as Christy Romano, I really approached her as a character. I’m going to be very transparent in that I hope Poppy Blu comes back.”

Whether her character stays a cameo or becomes a more permanent fixture, Romano is thrilled to be along for the ride:

“It was amazing to be the voice of a movement. I’m feeling very honored, and I’m very happy that they’re bringing it back.”

‘Kim Possible’ also stars Alyson Hannigan, Sean Giambrone, and Patton Oswalt. The movie premieres on Disney Channel on February
