Legendary’s upcoming reboot of ‘Dune‘ has added another major actor in a major role for the movie based on Frank Herbert’s iconic novel. Stellan Skarsgård (‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’,’Cinderella’) has signed on as the villain Baron Vladimir Harkonnen! Skarsgård has gotten his face in front of the genre crowd through the Marvel Studios films where he has been playing Erik Selvig who was first introduced in ‘Thor.’ Now he will be playing one of the most insidious villains introduced in science fiction.

The actor will be joining Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson who have been cast as Paul and the Lady Jessica. Also recently cast was Dave Bautista who will play Skarsgård’s nephew Glossu “Beast” Rabban Harkonnen. While Rabban is one of the most sinister villains from the series due to his straight-up brutality, no one else from House Harkonnen can match the legendary evil and intellect of the Baron.

One aspect which will be interesting to see is how they turn Skarsgård into the Baron. While it is easy to imagine him having a “basso voice,” as Herbert described in his work, it is hard to see the actor as being so “grossly and immensely fat” that he needs levitation devices to help support his weight and enable him to move around.

Director Denis Villeneuve is clearly stacking the odds in his favor by bringing in pure talent for each of the main characters and we’re dying to see who he brings on board to play the parts of Duke Leto Atreides, Alia Atreides, Thufir Hawat, Gurney Halleck, Duncan Idaho, Wellington Yueh, Piter De Vries, Feyd-Rautha, Princess Irulan, Stilgar, Chani, and Shaddam IV. There are other major characters as well but these will be the ones who are most pivotal to the plot.
