Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance Mark Hamill, Anya Taylor-Joy, Natalie Dormer Taron Egerton

Netflix’s upcoming ten-part ‘Dark Crystal’ prequel, entitled ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ is truly a star-studded affair and the list of voice actors continues to grow.

Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel voice the three Gelfling heroes of the epic, Rian, Brea and Deet, respectively.  Just added to the Gelfling side of the cast are Caitriona Balfe and Natalie Dormer.

Egerton can be seen in the current box office flop ‘Robin Hood’, but is best known for playing Eggsy in the ‘Kingsman’ movies.  Taylor-Joy was seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Split’ and will appear in the upcoming sequel ‘Glass’.  She will also star as Magik in the ‘X-Men’ spin-off ‘New Mutants’ and lends her voice to ‘Playmobil the Movie’.  Emmanuel is known for playing Missandei on ‘Game of Thrones’ and she also appeared in the ‘Maze Runner’ movies.  She stars in the upcoming ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ TV series.

Balfe is best known for playing Claire Randall on the cult favorite ‘Outlander’.  Like Emmanuel, Dormer is best known for starring on ‘Game of Thrones’ as Margaery Tyrell.  She also recently headlined the Amazon Prime miniseries ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’.

Other Gelfling characters in ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ will be voiced by Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander.

Also just announced as part of the cast are Mark Hamill and Andy Samberg, who will be part of the opposing side of the conflict, the Skeksis and Mystics.  Hamill, of course, is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in ‘Star Wars’ and voicing The Joker in various Warner Brothers/DC animated projects.  Samberg gained fame on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and currently stars on the sitcom ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’.

Also voicing Skeksis and Mystics are Harvey Fierstein, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Simon Pegg.

Acclaimed voice actor Donna Kimball (‘The Happytime Murders’, ‘Sigmund and the Sea Monsters’) provides the voice of the witch Aughra.

Louis Leterrier, director of ‘Now You See Me’, ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘The Transporter’, is producing and directing this prequel, which takes place many years before the events of the 1982 film.

Here is the show’s description:

The world of Thra is dying. At the heart of Thra is the Crystal of Truth, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelflings uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

According to Netflix’s Cindy Holland:

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will combine the art of puppetry perfected by The Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects.  I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life.”
