Duke Nukem

Paramount Studios may have bowed out from producing a ‘Duke Nukem‘ film but the movie is still moving forward with Jean-Julien Baronnet signing on to produce. This is either good or bad news for the film as it could be a sign that Baronnet is trying to redeem himself after the mess he delivered in ‘Assassin’s Creed‘ but on the flip side, it could be worrisome if he is pushing for the movie to be tackled in the same style.

The movie has been in development for years with Paramount and Gearbox Software teaming up to deliver us a spoof on the ’80s action hero, but while Paramount has left the project, we know that Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is still involved. Rumors earlier this year had John Cena up for the role though it isn’t confirmed that he’ll still be playing the part without much movement since it was announced.

However, progress has been made recently with Gearbox’s Sean Haren and Baronnet having been meeting with writers to see what they can do with the property. Haren shared of the character:

“He’s a parody of 1980s action heroes, and he’s like Deadpool in terms of being able to break the fourth wall. We see a lot of humor in his confronting the values of today while trying to save the world.”

With Baronnet adding that “Duke is exactly the kind of very blunt character that we need in the world today.” We’ll see if audiences agree with that if the movie ends up seeing the light of day.
