While on a press tour for the movie ‘Men in Black 3,’ the renown make up designer Rick Baker revealed that he’s already hard at work on Disney’s retelling of the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ fairy tale called ‘Maleficent’ starring Angelina Jolie. In the film, it’s not Princess Aurora’s viewpoint that will drive the story but of the iconic sorceress Maleficent.

So what better pairing than to bring Baker in to transform Jolie into the self-proclaimed “Mistress of all Evil?” Filming is set to begin next month but according to Baker, he’s already been working on the make-up design for the character. “They’re just starting that now,” Baker said. “I designed the makeup for Angelina Jolie. At this point, I’m actually finished with that part of it.”

In ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ Maleficent was portrayed as an elegant, sinister and beautiful sorceress with the “horns of the devil.” While we don’t know how close this Maleficent will look to the Disney animated version, Jolie has already stated that she wants to keep the horns. “The horns are the horns,’ she explained, “you can’t deny them. You have to have the horns.” Knowing Baker’s ability to truly transform an actor (after all, he did Jim Carrey’s make up in ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’), one can only image the wonderful things he could do in this film.

‘Maleficent’ will be Robert Stromberg’s directorial debut and he’ll be working off a script by Linda Woolverton (‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘The Lion King’, ‘Teen Wolf’). The movie also stars Elle Fanning, Kenneth Cranham, Lesley Manville, Miranda Richardson, Same Riley, India Eisley, and Imelda Staunton.

‘Maleficent’ isn’t slated to be released until March 14, 2014, but you can catch Baker’s latest works when ‘Men in Black 3’ opens in theaters on May 25th.
