DC Universe’s ‘Stargirl‘ just cast a founding member of the Justice Society of America by hiring Lou Ferrigno Jr. (‘S.W.A.T.’,’Teen Wolf’) as Rex Tyler who is better known as the heroic Hourman. This isn’t the first time the character has been brought to the small screen as DC’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ previously had Patrick J. Adams (‘Suits’) playing the part for a couple of episodes.
In the series, this Golden Age hero is being described as “a master chemist and adrenaline junkie who as Hourman is a thrill-seeking superhero with the ability to manifest super-strength… for one hour a day. A founding member of the Justice Society of America, Rex/Hourman struggles with balancing his life as a hero and father.”
Casting news is coming out pretty quickly about the JSA in ‘Stargirl’ as just recently Joel McHale was announced to play Starman while Anjelika Washington, Yvette Monreal, and Christopher James Baker have joined the production in mystery roles.
It isn’t clear which members of the JSA will make the cut so far, but we do have a few thoughts on the matter you may want to check out! It should be noted that Hourman was on this list though it was his son that had been the suggested hero who should be included.
Are you excited to see Lou Ferrigno Jr. joining the cast of ‘Stargirl’? Do you think this means that DC Universe might be looking into eventually spinning off a Justice Society of America series? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group
of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. The series reimagines Stargirl and the very
first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable
series.
‘Stargirl’ is presently expected to debut on DC Universe at the end of August.
