If you can’t get enough of the Merc With The Mouth, then you’re going to want to check out ‘Once Upon a Deadpool‘ when it is released later this month. Yes, a PG-13 cut of the film might be a turn off to some viewers who enjoy Wade Wilson’s over the top antics but what happens when you also get another 20-minutes of new footage thrown into the mix? That is part of what Fox is planning on releasing in the film to help lure in new viewers.
While the initial pitch for the film was to make a PG-13 version to allow for more people to see the film and let Ryan Reynolds swim around in a pool of money Scrooge McDuck style, it had been pitched with a fun framing device that would bring in Fred Savage and a classic ‘The Princess Vibe’ feel.
Previously, co-writer Paul Wernick had confirmed that some new footage had been shot but not how much:
“We definitely shot new stuff. And recently too. After Deadpool 2 came out and we were all sitting around, we came to it less about the idea of let’s make a PG-13 movie and more, ‘Let’s talk a little bit about Deadpool.’ We were kicking around some ideas, and then I think it was Ryan [Reynolds] who had the great framing device and we all got excited and went to the studio. They said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it. Fire up the cameras.’”
The confirmation of the new footage came from Julian Dennison who plays Firefist from the film though he wouldn’t confirm as to how much of that could be from new scenes or how much was related just to Fred Savage’s framing device.
