If the Minecraft enthusiasts out there don’t have time to fully play through Telltale’s masterpiece, the first chapter of ‘Minecraft: Story Mode’ is now available on Netflix! This is another choose-your-own adventure experience which Netflix has been pushing as of late and frames the game in a new story mode that lets you choose how to experience the story but not give you the full gaming experience.
The first chapter includes the episodes “The Order of the Stone,” “Assembly Required,” and “The Last Place You Look” which will be featuring the original voice talent from the game and has quite an impressive list of actors involved including Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber, Sean Astin, and Melissa Hutchison.
While gamers and kids will be thrilled at having this choose-your-adventure experience available, the downside is that it was entirely developed by Telltale Games. As most know, the studio was shut down and this is the last project which was completed before they had to close their doors for good. After hundreds were laid off, a skeleton crew was kept on board to finish this title and their commitment to Netflix. However, that also means that future chapters will likely not see the light of day.
While the company was starting to shut its doors, Netflix released this statement:
“We are saddened by the news about Telltale Games – they developed many great games in the past and left an indelible mark in the industry. Minecraft: Story Mode is still moving forward as planned. We are in the process of evaluating other options for bringing the Stranger Things universe to life in an interactive medium.”
We know at least two more episodes of ‘Minecraft: The Story Mode’ will be coming to Netflix but anything beyond that is up in the air.
