Deadly Class Adds David Zayas And Kelcey Mawema As Recurring Guest Stars

Two actors have been added as recurring guests on Syfy’s ‘Deadly Class’— David Zayas and Kelcey Mawema.  The new series, based on Rick Remender and Wes Craig’s Image Comic book of the same name, will premier on January 16, 2019.

Zayas’ character, El Alma Del Diablo, is the father of Michel Duval’s character Chico.  El Alma Del Diablo is the powerful lord of a Mexican drug cartel.  “He runs his family just like his cartel – with an iron fist.”

Relative newcomer, Mawema plays a character named Gabrielle, who looks to be a potential love interest for Luke Tennie’s Willie Lewis.  They meet while Lewis is working at a local comic book shop and she later attempts to persuade him to leave the lethal Kings Dominion academy.

Zayas may be best remembered for his role as Det. Angel Batista on ‘Dexter’, but he has since also starred in ‘Bloodline’ and ‘Saint George’, in addition to portraying mobster Sal Maroni on ‘Gotham’.  He has most recently been seen in ‘Seven Seconds’, ‘Quantico’, and ‘Chicago PD’.

‘Deadly Class’ may reunite Mawema with her ‘To All the Boys I Loved Before’ costar Lana Condor, who is a series regular on the new program, portraying Saya Kuroki.  Mawema also recently wrapped the TV movie, ‘Motherland’ which stars another member of the ‘Deadly Class’ cast, Taylor Hickson, who plays Petra.  Mawema has also made appearances on ‘Mech-X4’ and ‘The Exorcist’ TV series, and the TV movie ‘Looks Like Christmas’.

Zayas and Mawema join fellow recurring guest stars Sean Depner, Jack Gillett, Ryan Robbins, Henry Rollins, Siobhan Williams, and Isaiah Lehtinen.

In addition to Duval and Condor, ‘Deadly Class’ stars regulars, Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, María Gabriela de Faría, and Liam James.

Remender and Miles Orion Feldsott developed the series for television and both will serve as executive producers and showrunners.  Mick Betancourt joins them as a co-showrunner.
