Rick Grimes

We’ve known for a while that this was meant to be the last season which would have Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes on ‘The Walking Dead‘ and now AMC has revealed that the character will only be around for two more episodes. The network has revealed a trailer for the upcoming fourth and fifth episodes of the ninth season of their hit show and are calling them “Rick’s final two episodes.” Supposedly after another 14 days, we’ll never see Rick Grimes around again.

That is, assuming that they kill off the character and don’t have him just leave his leadership position and head off to return next season.

The fifth episode is titled “What Comes After,” and the synopsis for the episode reads:

“Rick is forced to face the past as he struggles to maintain the safety of the communities and protect the future he and Carl envisioned.”

We know that there are a lot of cameos of deceased characters showing up, so it is hard to imagine how that is going to play into the upcoming episode. Will this be literal and we’ll see someone appear who we thought was dead or just that the voices of those he has met along his journey from the hospital room will be trying to keep Rick’s moral center intact? It is hard to tell.

In a recent interview, Lincoln shared:

“My relationship with this part is far from over, I’m not gonna say anything more than that, but I will say, ‘Watch this season.”

This further indicates that we may not have seen the last of Rick Grimes.

If he is leaving the civilization that they’ve built but not the series, it could potentially be for one of those new ‘Walking Dead’ movies which have been rumored to be in development, and this will be giving him time to film it.

Are you sad to see that ‘The Walking Dead’ is going to finally be losing Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes? Do you think he’ll be dying on the series or heading somewhere else so that he could make a return next season or further down the line? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
