Marvel

In a move that should surprise nobody out there, Marvel Studios has removed one of its upcoming films from the 2020 release schedule. Right as Disney moved ‘Jungle Cruise’ to July 24th, 2020 it also completely took off this July 31st, 2020 title from its roster. While one could argue that Disney is just trying to spread its release slate out a bit more for its films to not compete with one another, I think we can all guess what happened.

So what movie was removed? While the studio will likely never confirm this, the July 31st 2020 movie was most likely ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’ We do know that the movie has gone on hold indefinitely after Disney fired James Gunn from Marvel Studios. With a search for a new director has already given us a rumored short list, it is only a matter of time before pre-production resumes at this point. Whether Dave Bautista will be involved in the final act of the trilogy is still a question which we don’t have an answer to.

As to how Disney’s upcoming slate of films in 2020 now looks:

  • February 14, 2020: Untitled Disney Live Action
  • March 6, 2020: Untitled Pixar Animation
  • March 27, 2020: Mulan
  • May 1, 2020: Untitled Marvel
  • May 29, 2020: Maleficent 2
  • June 19, 2020: Untitled Pixar Animation
  • July 24, 2020: Jungle Cruise
  • October 9, 2020: Untitled Disney Live Action
  • November 6, 2020: Untitled Marvel
  • November 25, 2020: Untitled Disney Animation
  • December 23, 2020: Untitled Disney Live Action

There is always the chance that we’ll see this release schedule shift again to include another Marvel Studios film as they’ve been doing a great job at putting out three a year so far. However, it isn’t clear if any of the other movies would be prepared in time to make this a reality and as the franchise is known for quality releases, it doesn’t seem like the studio would want to crank one out and lessen that element to keep up the quantity.

Do you think that we still may see another Marvel film in 2020? As a fan, do you think that having one less movie might hurt or help the franchise? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
