We’ve long heard rumors that the Quantum Realm would play a part in ‘Avengers 4‘ and now Michael Douglas has confirmed it. He hasn’t shared if it will allow for time travel or if that is part of the Soul World where everyone who was dusted by Thanos snapping his fingers now resides, but it is going to be “the key” to saving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Initially introduced in ‘Ant-Man’ in 2015, we’ve seen that other life exists there and even what looks to be a city in the background of this subatomic realm.

People who paid attention during the after-the-credits scene for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp‘ would also have noticed that there was a lot of orange swirling into existence timed to what we believe is when Thanos snapped his fingers. It isn’t clear if this was the souls of those who went missing appearing or just showing that a significant change has just happened to the very foundation of the MCU.

Douglas was asked if ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ was directly connected to the upcoming film:

“I mean, all of them. I mean, the Quantum Realm, that’s the key. That’s the key. The Quantum Realm plays an important part in all the next chapters, I think, of the Marvel films.”

He quickly switched topics as not to reveal any spoilers, likely from Marvel Studios execs yelling to him through a remote ant-sized microphone likely embedded in his ear that he’d go missing if he uttered another word. This does confirm the suspicions that many have had about the Quantum Realm being key to the upcoming story arc but not how quite yet.
