Batwoman won’t be the only superhero in black during the upcoming ‘Elseworlds’ crossover between ‘The Flash’, ‘Arrow’ and ‘Supergirl’.  Oliver Queen himself, Stephen Amell shared a glimpse of three of the shows’ male stars, himself, Grant Gustin and Tyler Hoechlin dressed in black.  But while Amell and Gustin were bundled up in winter coats and possibly their own street clothes, Hoechlin is in full Superman costume, but instead of the traditional red, yellow and blue, he is sporting a black and white variation.

Amell tantalizingly did not write anything as a caption, beyond three “mind blown” emojis.  But the fact that this year’s crossover is named ‘Elseworlds’ hints that the heroes may be visiting parallel realities.  Is this a dark, evil Superman, similar to the evil versions of The Flash, Green Arrow, and Supergirl that popped up last year in ‘Crisis on Earth-X’?  Is it a healing suit like the one worn in the comics and in the ‘Justice League’ movie, to aid him after he came back from the dead?

The fact that LaMonica Garrett has been cast to play The Monitor leads credence to the parallel universe theory.  The Monitor was one of the major players in the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ comic book story which redefined the DC Universe for the modern age… in 1984.  He was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez and Pérez will be creating a special illustration of the character that will be used as an important prop during the crossover.

Hoechlin’s Superman will appear in all three episodes of the crossover, which will also introduce Lois Lane, played by Elizabeth Tulloch.  Gotham City will also play an important part in the story and will introduce Batwoman/Kate Kane, portrayed by Ruby Rose.

The crossover is filming right now.  It will air, beginning on Sunday, December 9th at 8pm EST on ‘The Flash’, then carry over on ‘Supergirl’ on Monday, Dec. 10th at 8pm, and conclude on ‘Arrow’ on Tuesday, Dec. 11th at 8pm.
