Benedict Wong Doctor Strange 2

Benedict Wong appeared at Fan Expo in Vancouver this weekend, to promote his upcoming series on Syfy, ‘Deadly Class’, but considering that he has a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, of course, questions about that arose from the crowd.  Wong disclosed a tidbit that wasn’t too spoiler-y– that he had filmed scenes for ‘Avengers 4’.  Even though in ‘Infinity War’, Wong peaced-out before the big confrontation with Thanos, in order to guard the Sanctum Sanctorum, there is expected to be a time jump of sorts at the beginning of ‘Avengers 4’.  With Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) MIA, it’s likely that defending the Earth from mystical threats fell to Wong.

But it appears that this might not be all the Wong that fans will get next year.

Marvel has kept everything post-‘Avengers 4’ pretty hush-hush, so it is entirely possible that certain projects have been chugging right along behind the scenes without fans knowing about it.  If ‘Doctor Strange 2’ starts filming this year, that means it could be released in theaters sometime next year.

Marvel does already have three flicks scheduled, though– ‘Captain Marvel’, ‘Avengers 4’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’— so it’s probably more likely that ‘Doctor Strange 2’ will be released in 2020.  Either way, the first ‘Doctor Strange’ came out in 2016, so 2020 is probably the latest Marvel would want to wait to release a follow-up.  Keep in mind how many visual effects were in the first movie.  These movies require extra time in post-production, so late 2019 or 2020 would make sense.

It’s also been reported that Cumberbatch has renegotiated his contract and would receive $9.57 million for ‘Doctor Strange 2’, but that is, of course, unsubstantiated.

At any rate, it seems as though ‘Doctor Strange 2’ is getting closer to reality.  Are you excited to get another solo adventure from the Master of Mystic Arts (and friends)?
