After four years of being published, Robert Kirkman announced at this year’s New York Comic-Con that ‘Outcast‘ is coming to a close. Initially debuting in 2014, we’ve just learned that issue #37 which is slated to drop in December will introduce us to the last story in the series. “The final arc will build to a crescendo of plot twists throughout twelve issues and end on issue #48 will the long-planned ending to the psychological horror series first launched in 2014 to critical acclaim.” This is the final nail in the coffin for fans of ‘Outcast’ as we had just learned that Cinemax was canceling their live-action take on the series after the second season which means we won’t get much of the story acted out on the small screen either.
According to Kirkman:
“It’s been a long road getting here–but I’ve said since the beginning Outcast was the first series I started where I had the ending planned before we began. We’ve been building to what’s coming since the very first issue, and it’s great to finally be at the point where we can tell this final epic storyline! Working with Paul has been an absolute thrill, and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve done together over what will be a five-year journey.”
For those unfamiliar with the book, it is described as:
Outcast by Kirkman and Azaceta follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life and now he needs answers. Unfortunately, what he uncovers along the way could bring about the end of life on Earth as we know it.
Kirkman’s comic has long been a fan-favorite, and its plot has been well-received by fans and critics. The work was a passion project for the creator of ‘The Walking Dead,’ and thankfully he is at least able to bring the comic to a close on his terms. With the dark nature of the book, it is unclear if we’re going to see Barnes make it out alive at the end of the series or if all of humanity might fall.
