Fans of The CW’s Arrowverse and Constantine have been thrilled that Matt Ryan’s character would be joining ‘Legends of Tomorrow‘ though apparently, you shouldn’t hold your breath for it. We know that he’ll be boarding The Waverider sooner than later, but we won’t see him on the team right off the bat, but it is for a solid reason!
The details came directly from executive producer Phil Klemmer:
“The reason we held back on making him a Legend is we always wanted to keep that shroud of mystery around him. We didn’t want to have him acclimate ever to being integrated with the team.”
He did later go on to say that they “selfishly wanted to create some new mystery around him for our show.” This is a bit fitting as to what we know of the character from his own NBC series and what has been shared so far with his inclusion in the last year’s season of ‘Legends of Tomorrow.’
On top of that:
“So between dropping off the dragon’s head and knocking on Sara [Caity Lotz] and Ava’s [Jes Macallan] door in the middle of the night in the premiere, he lived a very eventful five months. He was in a pretty good spot, relatively for Constantine, but we wanted him to be darker, more troubled, more mysterious. That’s something for the audience to have to unravel: What happened to Constantine during the offseason and why has he changed?”
It sounds like we’ll be in for a darker Constantine when he returns and that the character won’t be in the best of places. Sounds fitting to me!
