Jody Houser is penning the new ‘Stranger Things‘ series which will shine a light onto one of the darkest moments of the first season of Netflix’s hit series – what exactly happened to Will Byers. We know that Byers ended up in the Upside Down and when he returned was infected by The Shadow Monster but how it happened, how he survived, and what he went through have all been a mystery. Now, two years after the events played out offscreen, this new comic is set to explain what exactly happened. Houser is penning the series with artists Stefano Martino and Keith Champagne bringing the story to life on paper for us.
The comic will take place at the same time as the first season of the show and expand upon some of the ideas which the Duffer Brothers have only hinted at so far.

“That is 100 percent intentional. I wanted the comic to feel like a possible artifact from the 1980s in the same way the show does.”
What happened to Byers is a significant plot point which we don’t know about from ‘Stranger Things’ and one that Netflix was happy to have told. In fact, the streaming network shared a list of ideas that they were open to having included in a comic series and this one was of them. Houser stated that “Getting to explore both the Upside Down and a character we didn’t get to see much of that season sounded like a blast to write, and something that I know I’d want to read as a fan.”
