Mystery Science Theater 3000

Netflix picked up the distribution rights to ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000‘ back in 2016 for the eleventh season and has now revealed when MST3K is coming back for a twelfth outing. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the show that spectacularly riffs on “classic” films and the debut of the upcoming season celebrates that fact.

Just as the original episode of MST3k debuted on the Minneapolis station KTMA in 1988 on Thanksgiving Eve, we’ll be seeing the new season launch on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Yes, folks, it’s a Thanksgiving miracle! This year’s Turkey Day won’t just be full of tryptophan and too much food but also a whole new set of episodes that MSTies everywhere will be set to binge watch. This day of release continues the tradition laid out by The Comedy Channel which used to have “Turkey Day Marathons” of the series back before we could stream it whenever we wanted.

According to series creator Joel Hodgson:

“I think the movies are even worse than last season, but I know the show is better. I could be mixing those two up.”

Felicia Day clarified things by adding that “The movies are deliciously bad and I get to torture my cast mates in new and innovative ways. I love my job!”

Day will be returning for the upcoming season along with Jonah Ray as Jonah Heston, Patton Oswalt as TV’s Son Of TV’s Frank, and Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount who will be once more voicing the two robots that we’ve come to love over the years. In the last episode, things weren’t looking too well for Jonah so it’ll be fun, and probably historical, to see how he pulls through for another voyage of bad films that need his commentary to be entertaining.
