Early reviews of ‘The Predator‘ are fully mixed and with the recent controversy surrounding the scene that was cut which initially featured a convicted sex offender in the movie, it was something else entirely which had Arnold Schwarzenegger turning down a cameo. Director Shane Black has opened up as to why Arnold didn’t come back for the part, and the two-fold reason made perfect sense and wasn’t a knock on the film that now seems to have plenty going against it.

According to Black:

“Understandably – and believe me, I completely get it – he said, ‘Look, that’s kind of a small part, and I don’t really think I want to do that. I’m off to do Terminator with Jim Cameron, basically. Or for Jim Cameron’. So I totally got it, you know? If I was Schwarzenegger, I’d want to be one of the stars of a film or nothing.”

While the star hasn’t been putting out the same level of hits that he was once known for, not wanting to do a glorified cameo and already being busy in a feature production which could end up as an actual box office darling are two solid reasons as to why Schwarzenegger didn’t return. There is always the chance he read the script and balked at the direction they were going with it, but Black previously was known for solid movies. On top of that, Black wasn’t even able to offer the original actor a larger part as:

“The studio wanted a fresher movie that featured an evolving cast. They didn’t want to hinge the movie on the re-emergence of Schwarzenegger. It would probably be more of a matter of his showing up briefly and just participating at the very end, at the climax of the movie.”

I’m sure plenty of fans would be thrilled to see Arnold return and facing down a Predator in another outing. In fact, so does Black who shared that if ‘The Predator’ does do well at the box office that:

“So you know, if there’s another movie, there’s no reason why he couldn’t be either in it, or the star of it, or whatever someone decides at a future date.”

I’m not sure if I’d get my hopes up of this happening at this time, but anything is possible.
