Deep-voiced Jon Hamm admits that fans have been lobbying for him to play a superhero on the big screen ever since the first season of ‘Mad Men’ but states that no studio has ever come right out and offered him a role in one of their comic book franchises.  “I have never had a conversation with anyone about it, literally. And I’ve sat in the room with all these guys. I have never been offered anything. I think the Internet wants what it wants. But, I mean, a lot of people have to sign off on that, obviously not just the Internet.”  (Wait… so the Internet doesn’t control everything?  What?!)

Hamm confessed that he is a comic book fan and is knowledgeable about them, and says that he would be up for playing a superhero, even though he dreads the idea of having to work out.

“It depends on the script, what the story is.  I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I have read comic books since I was nine or younger. And I am pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they are done well… I’d probably fit the suit. I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love. But, I am sure there is an interesting version of that being out there. And if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it: why not?”

Specifically, he was asked about playing Batman, but that seems unlikely.  Ben Affleck has not formally announced that he is leaving the role, but the one upcoming movie that is set to feature the character is Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ which is set to focus on a younger Caped Crusader in the earlier years of his crime-fighting career.  It is rumored that Oscar Isaac may be in the running for that role.  Perhaps if Hamm was still the same age as he was when he appeared on that ’90s dating show (above), he might have a better chance.  (Or not.)

For the time being, Hamm provides the voice of the narrator on FX’s Marvel comic book adaptation ‘Legion’.  He is also part of the cast of ‘Good Omens’ and will also appear in ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’, ‘Pale Blue Dot’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.
