good omens

When Jon Hamm (‘Mad Men’,’The Town’) was cast as the Angel Gabriel in ‘Good Omens‘ it seemed like such a perfect fit with how Neil Gaiman described the part. While the character was only mentioned in the novel, his brief description had a Hamm like style to it and now visually we know he’s a match as well! At least, thanks to a wonderful one color wardrobe that he’s rocking in the first image. When initially cast, Gaiman stated that “[Gabriel] is everything that Aziraphale isn’t: He’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed” and that fully fits this look.

I mean when you think about Don Draper, being able to be impeccably dressed seems to be what Hamm is all about!

I for one couldn’t pull off such a monochromatic style. In the book itself, Aziraphale mentions Gabriel only one time which is his sole appearance in the novel:

“Any more miracles and we’ll really start getting noticed by Up There,’ said Aziraphale. ‘If you really want Gabriel or someone wondering why forty policemen have gone to sleep–‘”

He is also mentioned in the 2006 released ‘Crowley and Aziraphale’s New Year’s Resolutions’ which Gaiman penned with Terry Pratchett and is thought of as canon where Aziraphale brought him up stating, “I will try to be polite to Gabriel, no matter what the provocation.”

There has never been confirmation if this take on Gabriel is similar to the version that Gaiman wrote in ‘Hellblazer’ who just really wasn’t a nice Angel to hang around as John Constantine calls him “The Snob” which is fitting for how he acts.

Do you think that Jon Hamm will play an amazing Gabriel for ‘Good Omens’? Will the role have him acting closer to his ‘Hellblazer’ namesake or a different take on the Angel altogether? Share your thoughts below!
