Come, Mr. Tally Man, tally me some tickets! ‘Beetlejuice The Musical’ is set to hit Broadway in March 2019 at the Winter Garden Theatre, producers announced, with an official opening to follow in April.
The new musical, based on Tim Burton’s 1988 classic horror comedy, will enjoy a pre-Broadway world premiere at the National Theatre in Washington D.C., with previews beginning Sunday, October 14 and opening on Sunday, November 4. Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures (Mark Kaufman) and Langley Park Productions (Kevin McCormick) made the official announcement earlier today.
‘Beetlejuice’ is directed by Alex Timbers, and features a score by Eddie Perfect, book by Scott Brown & Anthony King and choreography by Connor Gallagher. The pre-Broadway run will star Alex Brightman and Sophia Anne Caruso as Beetlejuice and Lydia.
The cast will also include powerhouses Kerry Butler and Rob McClure stepping into the roles played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin in the film. The principal cast is filled out by Adam Dannheisser, Leslie Kritzer, Jill Abramovitz, Danny Rutigliano, and Kelvin Moon Loh. The cast for the Broadway run has not been confirmed.
‘Beetlejuice’ is the story of Lydia Deetz, a teen obsessed with what she calls the whole “being dead thing.” Lydia enlists the help of an ancient demon to scare away her insufferable parents, thus waking the spirit of Beetlejuice who wreaks unholy havoc on the unsuspecting family!
According to the announcement, Beetlejuice will be “ruder, raunchier and frankly, more repellent than ever…” If you were thinking about buying tickets for the kids, think again, as a warning for the show reads:
“Parents Beware. Really F*S#&*G Explicit.”
