Dave Bautista

Prior to James Gunn being fired from Marvel Studios by Disney, the famed ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director had been pitched by Dave Bautista about a solo Drax the Destroyer film and seemed to be behind it. Now that Bautista is seriously contemplating leaving Drax behind him and even bowing out of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘, the actor has made it clear that he has no grudge against the character himself. In fact, he still loves the idea of Drax having his own film.

First, Bautista shared why he would love to see a spinoff film happen:

“Oh, yeah. You know why, really? I’d really just love to explore his past more. Even if we don’t do a Drax film, I hope they do it more in Guardians [Vol. 3], like look into his past.
I’d love to see other people from Drax’s race. Not only that, but I would love the fans to be able to put a visual— you know, a name with a face. I’d love for them to see his wife and his daughter and actually see and have references for them.”

We’ve seen hints of the grief about Drax’s family emerge and how he has earned the title of Destroyer but with both Thanos and Ronan not even being phased by him, it is an area that could be expanded upon:

“[Drax has] talked about it a little bit here and there, but you’ve never really seen him interact with his family and you’ve never seen how much he loved and cared for them, and you don’t really know the depth to how heartbroken he is. So, I think it would really be an interesting emotional note if we added that into a film or god willing, just do a whole Drax film. That would not only give me the opportunity to tell more of his backstory, but that would also leave time to be more of the Destroyer because I would love to see some of that too.”

With all of that in mind, the movie sounds like it would be a sure hit with fans. The problem is with Bautista potentially leaving Marvel Studios as soon as ‘Avengers 4’ officially wraps, we might not even see him in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ let alone his own film. If it were able to happen though it is something that would be a blast to see. Unless, of course, Drax was invisible for the entire movie.
