We recently reported that Henry Cavill (‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’,’Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’) has officially joined the cast of ‘The Witcher‘ and now showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich is welcoming the actor to the series! We already knew from when Cavill was lobbying for the part that he had not only beaten all three games including the most recent of ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ but was a fan of the novels as well. Yes, the actor has read all of the books by Andrzej Sapkowski and went into his audition fully prepared for anything they could throw at him.

While the first season will only be an 8-episode run, Cavill is no stranger to an ongoing series as he made his mark on the small screen as Charles Brandon in ‘The Tudors.’

To welcome the actor, Hissrich shared the following greeting which shows that this is news which they’ve been waiting to officially share for at least a little while at this point:

Specifically, this news has been brewing since April 30th which is when Hissrich and Cavill first met to talk about the project:

While casting probably wasn’t confirmed at this first meeting, it went in the actor’s favor. Sadly, the show isn’t expected to air until at least 2020 so getting too many solid details probably won’t be feasible until well into next year.

If you’re wondering what Cavill might look as Geralt, the artist Boss Logic previously shared an image which Hissrich has now retweeted after the announcement that you can check out here:

While it isn’t clear exactly how they’ll make the actor look in makeup, this is likely a close representation.
