Venom

If it wasn’t clear by now that Sony Pictures was hoping to set up their own Marvel Cinematic Universe then maybe the fact that the studio has signed Tom Hardy up for three ‘Venom’ films will help convince you of that. While being signed for three movies doesn’t mean that they will happen, it is just another clue that they want to create the same kind of success which Marvel Studios has been able to pull off.

Of course, Hardy was signed on for multiple ‘Mad Max’ movies, and we’ve only seen ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ get made so far with ‘Mad Max: The Wasteland’ in development limbo.

As to being part of this Spider-Man-less Spider-Verse called Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters (SUMC), Hardy says:

“I’m open to whatever you want to do with it. We’ve signed up for three of them. So it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it. I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them. It’s an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, it’s the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were. We all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it’s a fulcrum piece. But let’s see what happens when it lands.”

I’m pretty sure we can all agree that the critical and box office reception of ‘Venom’ will either kill or launch this potential franchise.

Do you think that the SUMC can take off and Tom Hardy will be playing ‘Venom’ in multiple movies? Are you looking forward to this live-action take on the character to be released? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!

One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom. ‘Venom’ will be swinging into theaters on October 5th, 2018!
