When ‘Deadpool 2‘ dropped their surprise ‘X-Men‘ cameos in the X-Mansion, fans pointed out that Sophie Turner’s (‘Game of Thrones’) Jean Grey wasn’t included and there is a very simple reason as to why that is. Director David Leitch was talking about the cameo in a recent interview and explained a bit more as to how it all came together.

According to Leitch, the way the reason that Turner wasn’t able to show up was all about timing:

“It might have been one of those things where we’re up against it, and it’s like, who’s available that day by the time we had to get the shot and get it down to us… we’re grateful to have anyone we could get at that point.”

This means that Leitch wasn’t able to pick and choose which of the X-Men did end up in the shot, but that didn’t bother him or audiences in the slightest. Even without Turner, we did get to see James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, and Kodi Smit-McPhee all reprise their roles as ‘X-Men’ for a surprise that no one saw coming.

If you wanted a quick refresher of the shot in question you can enjoy the still from the movie below as much as we did!

I just love how disgusted everyone looks here. Hopefully one of the upcoming movies will have some of the rest of these heroes asking Colossus to stop letting the Merc with the Mouth visit their school.

As to how it all came together from two different movie sets? Leitch shares that as well:

“So, the set supervisor, Dan Glass, who did the Matrix films, he came up with this idea of doing a composite, and getting the plates to match. So we shot our side here, and we sent the measurements and the camera positions and things up to Simon’s team on Dark Phoenix, and they shot the plate for that there. Then we put the two together. So actually it turned out to be easier than we thought. If we would have had to get all those people in the room, it probably wouldn’t have happened.”
