Rod Serling’s ‘The Twilight Zone‘ is one of the most iconic pieces of television to ever be crafted and the idea of rebooting it is potentially a travesty but it is a project Jordan Peele (‘Get Out’,’Keanu’) was hesitant to get behind. While CBS has been fully in backing the creator and want another hit on their hands, it took a bit for Peele to be convinced that making the show was a good choice.
In fact, Peele briefly felt that going with the idea under a different name might be a safer choice but eventually decided this was the right way to go.
According to Peele:
“I was terrified. Why would I ever jump into the most established, pristine shoes in all of the genre? I could rip Twilight Zone off and call it something different and not be compared to Rod Serling. So I stepped away from it. And then several months later I got another call. . . . The realization, for me, was that it was an opportunity to attempt to continue with Serling’s mission. If we approach it without ego and sort of bow to Serling, that will hopefully suffice for our fellow Twilight Zone fans but also bring back a show that I think is needed right now. Because it’s a show that has always helped us look at ourselves, hold a mirror up to society.”
Much like Rod Serling presented each episode on the original series, Peele is considering going the same route in the reboot and hosting the show as well. He is on the fence about doing this with how much of his on-screen persona has previously been tied to comedy, and he doesn’t want to have that take away from the show or Serling’s legacy.
We’ll have to wait and see what he decides on that front.
Are you excited for Jordan Peele giving us a new take on ‘The Twilight Zone’? Do you feel that he can live up to Rod Serling’s legacy with a new series? Should Peele also introduce each episode or would the series be better served by someone who hasn’t done so much comedy in their past? Share your thoughts below!
