We know that Marvel Studios is now on the hunt for a new director for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ since the Walt Disney Company fired James Gunn, and we’ve just learned of one director that won’t be taking the job. One of the names which fans have floated about was Steven DeKnight who did a stellar job at tackling Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Season 1 but the director isn’t interested. DeKnight doesn’t clearly state that he is supporting James Gunn in declining the position if offered, just that he doesn’t feel he could do a good of a job at realizing the original director’s vision for the film.

That being said, DeKnight has stated that he “would love to work with Marvel again!

DeKnight was posed the question on Twitter by a fan:

Now to be clear, this was a fan asking and not the studio. DeKnight is as openly vocal at being critical of the current president of the United States of America as James Gunn was, so if he’s got any old tweets laying around that could get him in trouble he would likely be instantly out of the running.

If Marvel Studios was to use a current director, it is likely that we could see Taika Waititi filling Gunn’s shoes though it isn’t clear if he would even take the job too.

Do you think Steven DeKnight would have been a good director for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’? Do you feel that he is passing on the job in solidarity to James Gunn or because he doesn’t feel up to translating Gunn’s script to the big screen? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
