Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has optioned the new Image/Top Cow comic book series ‘Eclipse’, by Zack Kaplan, to develop as a TV series. Giovanni Tampano provides the art for the series.
Here is the description of ‘Eclipse’ from Image Comics:
Imagine if sunlight burned you alive. In the near future, a mysterious solar event has transformed the sun’s light into deadly immolating rays. The world’s few survivors now live in nocturnal cities. But a killer who uses sunlight to burn his victims emerges, and when he targets the daughter of a solar power mogul, it falls to a disillusioned solar engineer to protect her.
‘Eclipse’ #9 just hit stores. There are two collected editions that collect issues #1-4 and #5-8. Top Cow’s Marc Silvestri and Matt Hawkins will serve as executive producers on the TV show with Skybound Entertainment, while Kaplan will serve as a co-executive producer.
Reacting to the news of Skybound’s optioning of ‘Eclipse’, Kaplan stated:
“Eclipse is a story that mixes post-apocalyptic and dystopian into a thrilling big world action drama, and explores the human condition while asking the question what if our life-giving sun turned on us. It’s my first comic series, it’s a passion project, and I’m so grateful to Top Cow’s Matt Hawkins and Marc Silvestri for believing in this great comic from the start, and I’m thrilled to see it developed by the best home in the business to marry comics with TV, and that’s Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment.”
Kirkman is best known for writing ‘The Walking Dead’, also published by Image Comics. The AMC TV adaptation, produced by Skybound, became the highest rated series on television and spawned a spin-off ‘Fear the Walking Dead’, plus the popular chat show ‘Talking Dead’. Skybound turned another Kirkman comic, ‘Outcast’ into a series for Showtime. The company also produced ‘Robert Kirkman’s Secret History of Comics’ and the movie ‘Air’. Their series ‘Five Year’ was created exclusively for the Korean market. They are currently working on an adult animated series based on Kirkman’s superhero comic ‘Invincible’ for Amazon.
No network or outlet was announced, so it appears that Skybound is developing ‘Eclipse’ on their own and will shop it around later.
