We really don’t know if a ‘Man of Steel 2‘ will ever happen but if the studio is listening to their own Superman for inspiration, Henry Cavill has an idea for the movie. The actor is a huge ‘Superman’ fan and has read countless books about the character. however, with DC having crafted a connected universe, his story idea may be hard to pull off at this point, but it’s still a tale that he’d love to tell.
According to Cavill:
“I’m a huge fan of Superman comic books, obviously, and we’ve covered a lot of the really good stuff from the comics, in part, in the movies, so I couldn’t necessarily say those. But I can say, one of my favorite books is Superman: For Tomorrow. That one I think — [you] could certainly draw some inspiration from that. I think it would make a really good movie.”
‘Superman: For Tomorrow’ was released in 2004 and was written by Brian Azzarello with art by Jim Lee and inking handled by Scott Williams. The collected story ran through 12-episodes in ‘Superman’ vol. 2 issues #204—215. In it, we watch what happened after “The Vanishing.”
When the story starts, we’re flung a year after this event which had more than a million people from across the globe vanish without a clue as to where or why. One of these missing is the love of Superman’s life and his wife at the time, Lois Lane. The story also features appearances by Wonder Woman and Batman.
The tale met with mixed reviews and part of the plot would make it hard to shoehorn into the existing cinematic universe but could be an idea that is used as a base for something original.
Would you like to see ‘Man of Steel 2’ be based on ‘Superman: For Tomorrow’ or would you prefer a different direction for the next film? Do you think that we’ll even see a ‘Man of Steel 2’ or will DC focus on their other heroes for the foreseeable future? Share your thoughts below!
