Judge Dredd: Mega-City One

This is exciting news for ‘Judge Dredd’ fans as we’ve just learned that the script for the pilot episode of ‘Judge Dredd: Mega-City One‘ is finished! We’ve known that the television series has been in development for quite some time and this is a significant milestone as the script by comic writer Rob Williams is now complete.

The news broke at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 from 2000 AD and Judge Dredd owners Rebellion.

Not only has the pilot script been finalized but the plot for the first two years of episodes for the series has been planned out! For those who are only loosely familiar with the comics, Williams has written the ‘Judge Dredd’ comics for years, including some of the more well-known stories of the character such as “Trifecta,” “Titan,” and “Enceladus.” He is attached as the creative lead for the series so comic fans should have faith that we’ll be getting an accurate representation of the character.

While Williams is responsible for the pilot, there is a group of writers which he’ll be working with to bring these tales to life.

Brian Jenkins who is a producer on the series shares:

“It’s been really exciting to be working with Rob on the pilot. We have a really talented team here at Rebellion Productions, and I’m really proud of them. Jason and I have been busy looking at locations and laying out season one as we gear up, to move forward into pre-production.”

Rebellion creative director and CEO Jason Kingsley also added:

“I’ve read the pilot script by Rob and the team and got that same thrill I did when I first discovered Judge Dredd. As we drive this project forward, I’m always surprised by how much effort goes on behind-the-scenes to bring something like Mega-City One to the screen. I’m very pleased with how the whole project is coming together and looking forward to more exciting announcements in the coming months.”

We’re still all eagerly awaiting the news if Karl Urban will return to play the role from ‘Dredd,’ but even if he doesn’t, this sounds like longterm fans have something to look forward to.

While we’ve already known that ‘Judge Dredd: Mega-City One’ is set to be an ensemble piece that takes place in the world of “Mega-City One,” the news did confirm that it won’t put Dredd as the sole focus of this series.
