mega city one keith urban

Judgement might be coming to television in ‘Judge Dredd: Mega-City One‘ but the big questions on Judge Dredd fan’s minds is if we’ll be getting Karl Urban back in the role or not. Well, Urban feels our pain and has shared exactly what it would take to get him back in costume. While I’m sure a boatload of money is also involved, it is actually something that we’d all hope would happen anyway – a solid plot and reason for him to return. In recent years we’ve seen many television shows outshine major motion pictures and the world of Judge Dredd is complex enough to be the perfect setting for an ongoing series.

So what exactly would bring Urban back to his role in the now cult classic film?

“Well, Rebellion, who owns the rights to Judge Dredd, are currently developing a television series called Mega-City One, and I’ve had many discussions with them about my involvement of which I am interested, and I said to them, ‘Listen, if you write a character that has a function and a purpose and contributes to the overall story, then I might be very interested in reprising that role.’ I certainly wouldn’t want to step into it and just pay lip service to the movie. There has to be some material there that warrants further exploration of that character. So the ball’s in their court.”

At this time it is unclear if ‘Mega-City One’ is even the same world which we saw in ‘Dredd’ and if it wasn’t, any changes to the character might be unwelcome to the fans who have been rooting for a comeback. Either way, Urban has a very active acting career at the moment so that he’s willing to step into television for the right plot, and likely network and paycheck means that he enjoyed both the character and the fan response to him.

Do you think that ‘Mega-City One’ will provide Karl Urban a reason to reprise this role? Will the television series take place in the same universe as the film or be its own entity? Share your thoughts below!
