When the fifth season of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ came to a close we never learned the fate of Jeff Ward as Deke Shaw, and it appears he’ll be sticking around after all. Deke was the grandson of Iain de Caestecker’s Fitz and Elizabeth Henstridge’s Simmons but vanished at the end of the episode when the timeline appeared to change for the better. With the Agents having prevented the dystopian future from ever happening in the first place, there was no sign of Deke when the final credits rolled. It could be easy to assume that he was erased along with the original timeline and with that not being the case it looks like Deke will return – as a series regular!
The news broke during an Entertainment Weekly San Diego Comic-Con 2018 interview with the cast of the show. Ward let us know that he didn’t poof out of existence when the show came to a close but left to travel the world which he had only heard stories of as the Earth had been destroyed in his timeline.
According to Ward, “I’m very excited because all these people are incredible and very good at what they do.” He quickly shared that he had rehearsed it and Ming-Na Wen, who plays Melinda May, followed up with “Yeah, that was coming off really natural.”
The actors have already welcomed him to the team. This is excellent news for fans as Deke was a welcome addition to the team who adds both humor and creative solutions to some of the problems our Agents have come up against.
How do you think Jeff Ward’s Deke Shaw will end up having survived the correction of the timeline on Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? Will this lead to a romance between Deke and Daisy? How much Zima will Deke consume in the upcoming season? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
