shuri

After the success of ‘Black Panther‘ where Shuri became a fan-favorite, it is about time that T’Challa’s younger sister finally gets a comic of her own. The book will be penned by an author who is intimately familiar with ‘Black Panther’ lore as it is being tackled by Nnedi Okorafor who was responsible for ‘Black Panther: Long Live the King’ and feature art by Leonardo Romero (‘Hawkeye’.)

According to Okorafor when talking about the character:

“[Shuri is] an African young woman of genius level intelligence who is obsessed with technology and has traveled spiritually so far into the past that she’s seen Wakanda before it was Wakanda. The Ancestors call her Ancient Future. And she’s super ambitious. What do I love about her? Alllll that and more.”

The comic is set to fall into comic continuity and not that of Ryan Coogler’s smash hit film. It will take place during the same time as Ta-Nehisi Coates’ current run on ‘Black Panther.’ In it, we see that T’Challa is in space and exploring the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. This will place Shuri in the position of needing to lead Wakanda which is a role that we’ve previously seen her in.

However, it will be the first time she has run the country since having died and been brought back to the land of the living after the “Time Runs Out” story arc a few years back.

Are you looking forward to seeing further adventures of Shuri? Do you feel that she’ll be able to once again lead Wakanda or will this be unfamiliar territory for her with how much the nation has changed since she was last in charge? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!

Synopsis:

SHURI will bring a domestic conflict to the princess’s table — while she is the most at home in her lab, working to keep her country at the forefront of science and technology, Wakanda is missing its leader. Without T’Challa around, Shuri will have to decide if she will forego her own passions in order to stand up for her nation.
