Forget Batman and Superman.  Warner Brothers is looking to two unlikely heroes to salvage their DC Comics series of movies, Aquaman and Shazam.  The two directors of these champions’ movies made their names on low budget horror films– James Wan of the ‘Saw’ and ‘Conjuring’ movies and David F. Sandberg who helmed ‘Annabelle: Creation’.  Wan’s ‘Aquaman’ arrives this winter on December 21, while Sandberg’s ‘Shazam!’ will swoop into theaters in spring on April 5.  Though there has been no official confirmation, it is widely reported that Warner Brothers is eyeing these two movies very closely as they will determine whether or not the company moves forward with any other DC projects set in this shared universe.

Just days ago, WB finally released an official photo of star Zachary Levi suited up as Shazam.  His appearance has been the subject of much debate, specifically whether or not his suit is padded armor or an actual form-fitting body suit and he bulked up for the role.  (I’m sticking with my stance that he bulked up and the suit isn’t padded, but feel free to disagree.)

Now a grainy video has been leaked that shows Levi in action as Shazam, with commentary by Sandberg.  Unfortunately it’s in Russian (I think), but at least you can get a hint of what to expect when the movie arrives.

San Diego Comic-Con kicks off later this week and we know that Warner Brothers will be unveiling the first ‘Shazam!’ trailer but they could easily include some additional footage including this clip in English.  Then again, just because they show the footage at SDCC doesn’t mean they will release it online, but we can hope.  There should also be some ‘Aquaman’ footage on display and possibly even some early ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ clips, even though that movie just began production in the last month.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, ‘Shazam!’ stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Cooper Andrews, Jovan Armand, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Ian Chen, DJ Cotrona, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Faithe Herman, Djimon Hounsou and Marta Milans.  The film opens on April 5, 2019.
