With all of the good buzz around ‘Logan’ and fan nostalgia over it being the last film that Hugh Jackman will be playing Wolverine, many are forgetting that this is most likely also the final time Patrick Stewart will portray Charles Xavier, a role he has had just as long as Jackman has been playing Logan. Part of the reason is that Stewart had not made a definite decision yet (though it seems more confirmed now that the movie is actually out), and part of it is that Stewart’s character does not require the physicality of Wolverine, meaning that Stewart could conceivably play the character a lot longer than Jackman, who is a little too old to be doing all those stunts and maintaining his body in that kind of peak shape. And now, there is even more evidence that this is not the last time we will see Stewart in that hallowed wheelchair.
While speaking recently to MTV, Stewart shared his thoughts on returning for a ‘Deadpool’ movie, words that give us hope for the future for a possible return of his Charles Xavier:
“I would have said yes, but the discussion just now about Deadpool makes me think, well, maybe there is a proper justification for the revival of Charles Xavier.”
Yep, it seems that Patrick Stewart is just an enamored with Ryan Reynold’s ‘Deadpool’ as the rest of the world, and may yet be willing to jump back into the Xavier role if it means he gets to play it alongside the Merc With a Mouth. And here’s hoping the folks putting together ‘Deadpool 2’ are paying attention, because it really just seems like Stewart is just waiting for an invitation, and it definitely seems like it would be fun to see Steweart’s Xavier and Deadpool on screen together, especially since they are such drastically different heroes. And since I love Patrick Stewart and want to keep seeing him in the role, I’m going to hold out hope that even if he does not make it into ‘Deadpool 2,’ they might bring him back for another movie with Deadpool, as the Studio would be foolish to waste an opportunity like that, as Stewart has quite the fan base as well.
