‘Logan’ star Boyd Holbrook is returning to 20th Century Fox for a completely original project. He is in negotiations to write, executive produce and star in ‘The Thirst’ a film set in the future when water is a scarce and valuable commodity. The film is described as “an epic, world-building action-thriller.” Beyond that, no details have been offered. John Davis will produce.
Davis and Holbrook recently worked together on ‘The Predator’, which is also housed at Fox. Davis produced and Holbrook stars as Quinn McKenna. Holbrook first gained notice on TV on shows like ‘The Big C’, ‘Hatfields & McCoys’ and most recently ‘Narcos’. His most visible film role was as the villain Donald Pierce in last year’s ‘Logan’. In addition to ‘The Predator’, he has three other films due out this year, ‘The Ghost of Kelly Pavlik’, ‘Two/One’ and ‘O.G.’, the latter of which Holbrook also produced. He is slated to next film a thriller called ‘In the Shadow of the Moon’. Holbrook wrote and directed the 2015 short ‘Peacock Killer’.
It was while filming ‘The Predator’ that Holbrook pitched the idea for ‘The Thirst’ to Fox executive Matt Reilly. Reilly will oversee the project for the studio.
Depending on how well ‘The Predator’ does, Holbrook could be on the verge of becoming a desirable and bankable star, so it may be a wise business move on the part of Fox to lock him in by allowing him to pursue this passion project. ‘The Predator’ was directed by Shane Black (‘Iron Man 3’). The cast also includes Alfie Allen, Sterling K. Brown, Jake Busey, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Niall Matter, Olivia Munn, Edward James Olmos, Trevante Rhodes, Yvonne Strahovski and Jacob Tremblay. We’ll see how the film does when it opens this autumn on September 14.
