Superboy

‘Titans’ will be the first new live-action offering through Warner Brothers’ new DC Universe streaming service and we already know the series will spotlight Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Raven (Teagan Croft) and Starfire (Anna Diop) plus guest-stars Hawk (Alan Ritchson) and Dove (Minka Kelly).   But it seems more and more DC characters are lined up to join the adventures.  Although they haven’t been confirmed, it is believed that Jason Todd, the second Robin, later known as Red Hood, and Donna Troy, the original Wonder Girl will appear during the first season.  Now comes word that one of the most powerful Titans may arrive in the 13th and final episode of Season One.

As with every role on this series, this casting description uses a false name– “David.”  David is described as “a 20s-something Caucasian male with dark hair.”  The description goes on to say:

“David” is described as a powerful individual who is merciless, so much so that he has recently unleashed chaos to the people who have been keeping “David” as a prisoner in a mysterious lab. When we find “David”, he will have recently have escaped this lab. Whoever we see in the role would have a series regular option for consecutive seasons of Titans.

It appears that this is a veiled casting call for Superboy, a powerful clone that, in the comics, was created using a mixture of Superman’s and Lex Luthor’s DNA, by Project Cadmus.  It’s unclear whether or not the show will have the rights to use those two characters or if his background will be altered or simply vague.  Bruce Wayne/Batman is referenced but it is not believed that he will appear in person, so perhaps the same will be true of Superman and Luthor.

Relatively speaking, Superboy is a newer character than most of the other ‘Titans’, so he is traditionally paired with fellow younger heroes like Tim Drake, the third Robin and Cassie Sandsmark, the second Wonder Girl.  But on ‘Young Justice’ they tend to mix eras, so they could likely do so here.

The only other character that somewhat fits this description is Roy Harper/Speedy/Arsenal, who was also cloned by Cadmus, but he has red hair and is not “powerful.”  AND he’s already an existing character on ‘Arrow’.

Hawk & Dove may also be bumped up to series regulars or possibly spun off into their own show.  Donna Troy likewise has the potential for a future with ‘Titans’.
