Alyson Hannigan kim Possible

Alyson Hannigan might not have been “the mother” on her long-running sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother’ but she will be playing the mother of a teen action hero in the live action adaptation of the Disney cartoon series ‘Kim Possible’.  Newcomer Sadie Stanley will play her daughter, the titular hero, while ‘The Goldberg”s Sean Giambrone will play her sidekick Ron Stoppable.  ’12 Monkeys’star Todd Stashwick is playing villain Dr. Drakken with Taylor Ortega playing his partner Shego.  Connie Ray plays Kim’s grandmother Nana Possible.

The original ‘Kim Possible’ animated series was the Disney Channel’s most watched show and ran for four seasons from 2002-07.  It was actually cancelled after its third, but Disney decided to renew it for a fourth after fan outcry.  The show was nominated for eight Emmy awards during its run but only won one.  The voice cast included Christy Carlson Romano, Will Friedle, Nancy Cartwright, Tahj Mowry, John DiMaggio and Nicole Sullivan, with ‘The Brady Bunch Movie”s Gary Cole and ‘Designing Women”s Jean Smart voicing Kim’s parents Doctors James and Ann.  Patton Oswalt also provided the voice of villain Professor Dementor.  Christina Milian famously sang the show’s poppy theme song, “Call Me, Beep Me,” which was the #1 song on Radio Disney for twelve weeks.

The movie will also feature Ciara Wilson (‘OMG!’) as Kim’s classmate Athena, while Erika Tham (‘Make It Pop’) plays Kim’s frenemy Bonnie Rockwaller.

‘Kim Possible’ will be a Disney Channel Original Movie.  Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who worked together on the shows ‘Ingress Obsessed’ and ‘Mech-X4’ will co-direct.  Production is expected to begin this summer to be released next summer.

Hannigan starred on the hit CBS sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother’ for nine whopping seasons.  She is also known for appearing in the ‘American Pie’ movies as Michelle a.k.a. the Band Camp Girl.  But, of course, among genre fans, she will be forever remembered for playing Willow Rosenberg for seven seasons on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ as well as in spin-off projects like an animated movie and the series ‘Angel’.
