Zombieland 2‘ looks like it is not only heading towards an October 2019 release but that the original cast will all be returning as well! The movie has felt like a pipe dream for years now as there has been no official progress on the film since 2016. In fact, outside of the failed ‘Zombieland’ series pilot over at Amazon Studios, it almost seemed like there was no emphasis on the film. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been busy on other projects such as the two ‘Deadpool’ movies, but it seems like ideas for a follow up have been festering for quite some time.

That is just on the creative side as Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin have all had pretty busy shooting scheduled since the surprise hit shambled onto the big screen in 2009. Trying to get them all back together for the same film nearly ten years later seems almost impossible and yet it looks to be happening.

According to Wernick :

“We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2.

The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release. With the original cast, by the way.”

No studios or cast have confirmed that this is happening quite yet but Wernick went on to say that: “We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.”

Woody Harrelson was long an advocate of not doing sequels so the fact that they were able to get what sounds to be everyone on board, including the actor, hints that they’ve got a compelling story to tell. Either that or the studio made him a financial offer too good to refuse.
