One of the few actors in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘ that we still don’t know who they will be playing is Martin Starr (‘Silicon Valley’). Recently, the actor has dropped a hint as to who his character is. It is hard to imagine him playing anyone who a young Peter Parker would be interacting with as how stuck in my mind he is from his stint on HBO so it should be interesting to see who he ends up being.
Especially, since Starr will be playing a teacher.
That’s right folks, Starr will be one of Parker’s mentors at New York City High School which means he could be a major name from Peter’s youth or just as easily he could be a teacher created for the film.
According to the actor:
“I’m the academic decathlon coach and one of the teachers at the school so I have a bit of a thing in it.”
While he wouldn’t go into any further details about his character, or the film which he hasn’t been allowed to see in completion as of yet, he does say:
“It’s capitalizing on popularity and a story that’s very rich and dense, so there’s a lot left to tell. And this isn’t a familiar take on it — this is a unique kind of take of a younger Spider-Man trying to figure out life again.
The story has a lot of action and fun in it, but it’s also a sweet, coming-of-age story of a kid.”
As we’ve generally seen an older live-action Parker so far on the big screen, there is a lot of ground to be explored as a teenaged version of the character still struggling with a high school social life and figuring life out let alone also being a superhero.
When talking about working with Holland it sounds like Starr is a huge fan of the new Spider-Man:
“Tom is great. He’s captivating and he’s fun to act with.”
Honestly, almost any teacher that Starr portrays will at most be a namedrop for the old school fans as very few names have lasted through the book. Of course, there is always the chance that they could make one of his teachers into another character which will lead into one of his future villains.
