If you were hoping that ‘The X-Files’ would somehow continue without Gillian Anderson as Agent Scully then you’ll be saddened to hear that Fox has no plans to revisit the franchise without her. The news came during a conference call with Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs 0f Fox Television Group, who were discussing Fox’s upcoming Fall schedule when they broke the news.
Honestly, this isn’t too surprising as Chris Carter previously stated that “For me, The X-Files is Mulder and Scully I think if it were without Scully, I wouldn’t do it. That’s not my X-Files.”
He seems to be sticking to his guns, and the studio agreed with him as when asked about the potential future return of the series, Newman stated that “there are no plans to do another season at the moment.” While desperate fans might be quick to latch onto the “at the moment,” Anderson herself previously said that “I don’t want to be tied down to doing one thing for months and months… I like to be challenged as an actor. That’s why I got into this business. And it’s time for me to hang up Scully’s hat. This is it for me — I’m really serious.”
Without her, Carter just isn’t interested in another revival. There is always a chance that things could change in another ten years but I believe that we can officially say that outside of comics and books that it is case closed for ‘The X-Files.’
Were you hoping that we’d get at least one last go of ‘The X-Files’ with Mulder or did the series finale tie up enough loose ends to make you happy that we’re not getting more? Which aspects do you feel would continue if they did ever come back to follow Mulder’s path? Share your thoughts below!
