tom holland spider-man avengers infinity war

We all know spiders spin webs, but did you know they also spin stories? Well, Spider-Men do at any rate! We’ve written recently about the extraordinary lengths to which Marvel Studios generally and the Russo brothers, in particular, have gone to keep details of the plot of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ under wraps. Those have included not only giving out script pages on a strictly need to know basis, but also distributing fake scripts to cast members.

It’s an understandable, albeit unusual security measure. After all, ‘Infinity War’ is in many ways a movie ten years in the making. And it turns out that the Russos had good reason to worry about at least one cast member’s sense of discretion (such as it is). And it’s none other than your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! As Joe Russo explained to BBC Radio Scotland:

“Tom’s had a couple of slip ups in the past, he’s on the blacklist now. We wrote fake scripts, we wrote a really fake script for Tom Holland.”

This isn’t the first time Holland has been called out for his loose lips. Discussing the film’s secrecy with Games Radar, Russo quipped that they “couldn’t trust anybody – least of all Tom Holland! – with the truth.” Though on a more serious note, the director went on to say of the cast:

“It’s a burden to bear for them. It’s probably easier to have read a fake script and a fake ending because they don’t have the pressure of knowing what happens in the movie and then have to hide it.”

Directed by the Russo brothers from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ marks the culmination of a decade-long effort by Marvel Studios and sees the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos. The film counts Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olson, Sebastian Stan, and three gentlemen named “Chris” among its gargantuan cast. The long-awaited movie is set to arrive in theaters on April 27, 2018.
