Daphne & Velma

Get ready to learn the secret origin of Mystery Inc.– or at least half of it.  The new direct-to-video movie ‘Daphne & Velma’ will depict the first caper investigated by ‘Scooby-Doo!’ regulars Daphne Blake (Sarah Jeffery) and Velma Dinkley (Sarah Gilman), which involves brainwashed honor students at Ridge Valley High.  The film was produced by Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions and will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

“[Daphne & Velma] focuses on Ridge Valley High, an innovative center of learning for some of the brightest minds in the nation, including both Daphne Blake (Jeffery) and Velma Dinkley (Gilman). Together, the best friends discover a number of questionable disappearances on campus as kids who were once full of life appear to become “zombified.” The mystery brings Daphne and Velma together to see if they can solve the case.”

The cast also includes Vanessa Marano, Courtney Dietz, Stephen Ruffin, Fray Forde, Evan Castelloe, Daniel Salyers, Brian Stepanek, Adam Faison, Arden Myrin and Nadine Ellis.  Suzi Yoonessi directed and the script was penned by Kyle Mack and Caitlin Meares.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has previously released two other live action ‘Scooby-Doo!’ movies, ‘Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins’ and ‘Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster’.  Longtime fans were turned off by the casting of black-haired Robbie Amell as Fred.  The studio also regularly releases other original ‘Scooby’ content on home video.

It doesn’t appear that ‘Daphne & Velma’ will include appearances from Scooby, Fred or Shaggy.  But if it does well enough there could be sequels, which introduce the male half of Mystery Inc.

Warner Brothers also has a new live-action theatrical film in the works.  ‘S.C.O.O.B.’ was announced for release on September 21, 2018.  Last year, however, it was announced that the title had been changed to ‘Scooby’ and its release was pushed back to May 15, 2020.  This movie is the first in a planned Hanna Barbera universe.

The classic animated versions of Daphne and Velma will appear on this week’s episode of ‘Supernatural’.

‘Daphne & Velma’ will be released on May 22, 2018.
