Luke Cage is going to have a new force to reckon with in Season Two of the hit Netflix series.  Annabella Sciorra has joined ‘Luke Cage’ as Rosalie Carbone, “a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem.”

Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker stated:

“I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, and Anabella Sciorra is no joke as Rosalie Carbone.  You haven’t seen her this gangster since her thrilling turn as Tony’s formidable flame Gloria Trillo on season 3 of The Sopranos. I’m thrilled her introduction to the Marvel Universe will be on Marvel’s Luke Cage.”

Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb added:

“We couldn’t be happier to be working with such an incredible talent.  This character is complex and layered and Annabella is the perfect actress to portray her.”

Sciorra’s big break was starring in Spike Lee’s ‘Jungle Fever’ opposite Wesley Snipes in 1991.  She then starred in the original version of ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle’ the following year.  She went on to appear in films such as ‘Cop Land’, ‘What Dreams May Come’ and ‘Chasing Liberty’.  She starred on the legal drama ‘Queens Supreme’, ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’, and ‘Mental’ and made appearances on such shows as ‘Blue Bloods’, ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’, ‘ER’, ‘The L Word’, ‘Law & Order: Trial by Jury’, and ‘Touched by an Angel’.  She was nominated for a Prime Time Emmy Award for her role as Gloria Trillo on Season Five of ‘The Sopranos’.

Rosalie Carbone is actually an enemy of The Punisher‘s in the pages of Marvel Comics.  She fell in love with Frank Castle when he infiltrated her crime family, disguised as a thug named Johnny Tower.  In retaliation, she dedicated much of her family’s resources to hunting him down.  She ultimately failed and was killed.  She was created by writer Chuck Dixon, and artist John Romita Jr.

‘Jessica Jones’ Season Two just became available, but it looks like Netflix and Marvel TV are ramping up production on these shows.  ‘Luke Cage’ Season Two is right around the corner.  Netflix has already announced it will be released in its entirety on June 22nd.

What do you think of Rosalie Carbone taking on Luke Cage?  Do you think Annabella Sciorra is a good fit?
