While ‘Ghost Rider‘ is flying forward full steam on Marvel’s ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ we haven’t had any solid word on what is going on with ‘Blade‘ but we’ve just learned that nothing “imminent” is happening with the character. Over the weekend at New York Comic-Con we heard from Kate Beckinsale that a crossover between ‘Underworld’ and ‘Blade’ was in the works but it sounds as if that might have been taken out of context as Kevin Feige shut that rumor right down.

After the ‘Doctor Strange’ sneak peak we’ve been learning a ton of details from questions that Feige had a chance to field and one thing that came up was ‘Blade’. When asked what is going on with the character he stated that:

“They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with ‘Blade’ at some point.’ That’s still the answer. We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on ‘AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.”

With Marvel’s Cinematic Universe about to give us ‘Doctor Strange’ and the televised universe already having given us a darker and grittier world which includes Ghost Rider who might be getting his own series, it really is anyone’s guess where we could see Blade pop up next. Honestly, if Ghost Rider does end up with his own series it would seem to be the perfect launching point to give us a new take on Blade as well.

Not that I’m hoping for a ‘Midnight Sons’ inspired crossover event or anything like that.

All of that being said, there is clearly no immediate plans for the character.
